【Yokohama】”Ramen Hayashida”: Light yet Deep! I finally understand why there’s always a line.

haruka

Hi everyone! I’m Haruka, a housewife who absolutely loves ramen!

Today, I finally visited a popular spot in Yokohama I’ve been curious about for ages: “Ramen Hayashida.” It has a huge reputation on social media and review sites, and every time I passed by, there was always a long queue. So, I finally plucked up the courage to join the line!

To be honest, I usually prefer rich, creamy ramen, and since I heard Hayashida was known for its “light” style, I was a little nervous. But after the first bite… I was blown away by how delicious it was! Today, I want to share all the charms of Hayashida with you.

◆ The Location and Atmosphere

“Ramen Hayashida” is located about a 3-minute walk from the west exit of Yokohama Station. You’ll spot it immediately thanks to the line out the door—it’s a clear giveaway.

I visited around 11:00 AM on a weekday. Being so close to the station and just before the lunch rush, there were already 5 or 6 people waiting.

The interior consists of about 10 counter seats. With its simple wooden decor, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, even for solo female diners. The staff is polite, and the service is excellent.

◆ My Order: The “Special Shoyu Ramen”

I decided to treat myself a little and ordered the “Special Ramen” (1,200 yen).

When the bowl arrived, I was instantly impressed. The soup was crystal clear, and the toppings—charred pork, a soft-boiled seasoned egg, and glossy straight noodles—were arranged so neatly. You could tell just by looking that this was a bowl crafted with “careful workmanship.”

I also ordered bamboo shoots as a topping

With the first sip of the soup, I thought, “Oh, I could eat this every single day.” It’s a double soup base of chicken and seafood that feels like it’s gently soaking into your body. It’s light, but not at all lacking—the lingering savory umami is incredible.

As a housewife, I really appreciate that it’s satisfying without being “heavy.” Plus, I didn’t feel bloated afterward, so no guilt here! (lol)

The noodles are thin and straight. They have a smooth texture that pairs perfectly with the soup, and they stay firm and delicious until the very last bite.

The chashu pork is low-temperature cooked shoulder loin. It’s incredibly tender, and the meat’s flavor fills your mouth. The seasoned egg was perfectly runny in the middle with a subtle flavor—just flawless. Even the bamboo shoots (menma) were thick but soft, with a slight sweetness that complemented the soup rather than overpowering it.

◆ Friendly for Women and Solo Diners

Ramen shops can sometimes feel like a “man’s world,” but Hayashida has many female customers and elderly diners. The bright and clean interior probably helps.

Note: Since there are only counter seats and no tables, I wouldn’t recommend it for families with very small children.

◆ Summary: I totally get why there’s a line! A bowl that satisfies the heart and soul.

To be honest, I had a bit of a high hurdle in my mind just because it’s such a famous “queue-magnet” shop. But after eating there, I completely understand the popularity. It’s light but deeply satisfying. Even though it’s ramen, it has a “Japanese-style” (Wa) gentleness that makes you want to sip green tea afterward.

It’s not flashy, but it’s a bowl you’d want to eat every day. If you’re looking for ramen in Yokohama, you definitely have to try “Hayashida.”

As for me, this housewife is already planning to go back and try the Tsukemen (dipping noodles) next time! ♪
