Encountered the Devilish Black in Yokohama’s Wadamachi! I’m Captivated by “Menya Oguroya’s” Black Roasted Garlic Ramen

haruka

Hello everyone! This is Haruka, your gourmet blogger residing in Yamato City.

Today, I’m introducing you to a ramen shop located right outside the ticket gate of Wadamachi Station on the Sotetsu Line: “Menya Oguroya” (Noodle Shop Oguroya).

This shop is not just any tonkotsu (pork bone) ramen joint. They serve an addictive bowl that you simply can’t forget once you’ve tasted it. And that, my friends, is the “Kogashi Ninniku Kuro Ramen” (Black Roasted Garlic Ramen)!

My foodie radar was absolutely screaming, and I’m here to give you a passionate report on everything that makes this ramen so irresistible!

The Black Magic Hidden in a Jet-Black Visual! The “Black Roasted Garlic Ramen”

The moment it was placed on the counter, my eyes were drawn to the pitch-black soup!

The true identity of this blackness is the fragrant, roasted “Kogashi Ninniku Yu” (Black Garlic Oil or Māyu). While the look is intense, the perfect balance between the powerful kick and the rich aroma that hits you when you take a sip is truly exquisite.

The base broth is an authentic tonkotsu, deeply concentrated with pork bone flavor. Since the shop is in the Yokohama area, the flavor is close to the “Ie-kei” (Yokohama-style) tonkotsu shoyu (pork bone soy sauce), but Oguroya’s soup is not overly thick or heavy; the aftertaste is surprisingly clean.

The addition of the māyu aroma transforms it into a unique soup with depth and punch that transcends typical tonkotsu ramen. You simply cannot stop drinking the soup—it truly has a devilish flavor!

When you hear “garlic,” you might worry about the next day’s smell, but perhaps because the māyu is “roasted,” I found the smokiness and aroma to be more prominent than the strong, raw garlic scent. This means you can enjoy it relatively worry-free, even before heading out!

Transform the Flavor and Get Hooked Even More!

On the table, you’ll find condiments like red pickled ginger (beni shoga), grated garlic, and more.

Once you’ve finished about half the bowl, be sure to add some red pickled ginger. Its sharp sourness and vibrant color instantly refresh the rich soup. This ability to enjoy different tastes is yet another appealing feature of Oguroya!

A Relaxed Interior

Located on the first floor of a building right in front of Wadamachi Station, Oguroya-san feels less like a typical ramen shop covered in wall posters and more like a modern and tranquil space.

The interior is unified with a color palette of brown and black, featuring both a counter seating area and several tables. The spacious setup makes it comfortable whether you’re dining alone or with family and friends.

As a gourmet blogger, I appreciate that the atmosphere is welcoming enough for a woman to dine alone!

Payment is via “Vending Machine”

Payment is made via a ticket vending machine immediately inside the entrance.

You select your desired ramen, insert your cash, and hand the ticket to the counter staff. This system ensures there’s no hassle when leaving the shop.

Conclusion: When in Wadamachi, Let Yourself Be Captivated by the “Black”!

If you find yourself wondering “What should I eat today?” in the Wadamachi area, I wholeheartedly recommend Menya Oguroya’s Kogashi Ninniku Kuro Ramen!

The harmony of authentic tonkotsu and aromatic māyu is guaranteed to be addictive. The portions are generous, and they even offer the great service of free extra-large noodle servings during lunchtime!

To experience this incredible “black” for yourself, be sure to pay them a visit.

See you in my next gourmet report! This is Haruka signing off!
