Gyudon”Beef bowl” at Matsuya in Yamato Station

I tried gyudon, a type of “soul food” unique to Japan.
This time I visited Matsuya, located in the shopping arcade at Yamato Station.

Matsuya is one of the most famous gyudon restaurants, and is not only delicious, but also fast to serve and reasonably priced.
When you enter the restaurant, choose what you want to eat from the ticket machine at the entrance and pay before taking a seat.

Matsuya’s ordering system
- Order at the ticket machine
- Pay with cash (cards are also accepted at some locations)
- Take your meal ticket and sit wherever you like
- Food is served
- Enjoy your food
I had the Oroshi Ponzu Gyudon. It came with miso soup and cost 550 yen!
Matsuya’s Oroshi Ponzu Gyudon was a dish with a refreshing taste that was appealing.
First of all, the refreshing sourness of the Oroshi Ponzu spreads in your mouth, maintaining an excellent balance with the fatty beef. The tenderness of the beef and the sweetness of the sauce combined with the sourness of the ponzu make it very easy to eat and gives the impression of being healthy overall.
Also, the soft texture of the grated daikon made the beef bowl feel even lighter. I think it’s a great choice, especially in hot weather or on days when you feel like eating something light.

Even when you feel like a standard beef bowl is a bit heavy, you’ll be able to finish off this Grated Daikon and Ponzu Beef Bowl in no time.
This was a dish on Matsuya’s menu that I’d like to order again and again!
Next time I’d like to try combining it with other toppings.
